Mike wanted to make wontons. Which meant he made two misshapen ones, and then left me to make the rest …

But he’s the one who bought wonton wrappers and keeps the kitchen stocked with sesame oil, shaoxing wine, shiitake mushrooms and whatnot. And he gets me to grow Thai basil, chilli plants, lemon grass. Curry leaves, kaffir line leaves, pandan …

So I guess we’re a team.

They are supposed to look like gold ingots, ancient Chinese currency.

Mike cooked the noodles and a little broth, add some bak choy.

I am soooo pleased. They were fun to make. Definitely a staple now.

I followed this recipe to make basic wontons. I’m sure we’ll be changing up the filling in the future!
