It’s the start of 2021, and I want to thank the people who have changed my life over the past year, by inspiring me, encouraging me, and trusting me.
Thank you Akira Le, for your creative energy and willingness to go out of your way to be there for me, and thank you Minh Chong Ali for your fire and inspiring push to create a new narrative for Asians calling Australia home. You brought me into your Fam and I’m so grateful for it.
Thank you film makers Joel Stephen Fleming and Tristan Barr. You are both so incredibly driven, and for you life is so full of possibility! You both explode into my life like blinding sunshine through the front door of a shuttered house. A special thank you to actor Sen Shao, for the introduction which has taken me along this acting and, in particular, writing path.
Thank you Lynne Carter and the Cannon Creek Country Band, for bringing me into your group, making me learn country and rock songs I’ve never heard of before, and getting me to listen to songs in a different way. So now I’m learning the bagpipe solo in an AC/DC song. Mad! Very good mad!
Thank you to the parents of my students. I feel responsible for opening a portal to a magical world called Music. It’s a big responsibility, what if I screw up the experience and they turn away from this wonderful world? I hear that all the time from parents: I hated my lessons and quit, I don’t want that for my child. So I will continue to keep all the communication channels open, and you all know this is very much a two-way street. Actually it’s a multi-way street because the kids all have a say too.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Here’s to 2021. To creating, to growing, and to being truly alive. Joanna
