Jeanne Marshall and my melodica on stage April 14!

The Scenic Rim’s cultural programme Fire On Top Of Mountains is an all-encompassing celebration of the cultures and communities in the Scenic Rim. Its free events in Tamborine Mountain, Beaudesert and Boonah run in conjunction with the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, culminating in a Fire On Water Finale complete with fireworks, at the Ramada Resort Kooralbyn Valley.

My lovely melodica is playing in the People’s Orchestra, on Saturday April 14, at the Finale! Here’s an earlier post about meeting Musical Director Andrew Vievers and the other singers and instrumentalists in Beaudesert for the first time.

However… turns out I’ve got a 30-minute slot on the Cabaret Stage from 2.30-3.00pm too! So gorgeous Jeanne Marshall has agreed to sing with me and my melodica. Jeanne was described by Stage Whispers as the “smokin’ femme fatale Alaura” in City Of Angels at Beenleigh Theatre last year, and we first met in the musical “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do” directed by the Scenic Rim’s own Leonie Walsh.

Jeanne likes to sing jazz standards, and she and I have teamed up for a few functions as a vocal/piano duo. This time, I’m going to duet with Jeanne, playing melodica! It’s exciting! We haven’t done this before so it’s a brand new project! What songs will we perform? How will melodica entwine with Jeanne? A singular voice? Chords? Maybe I’ll make a backing track using my PreSonus audio interface. We have carte blanche so anything could happen!

Elsewhere, the team from the Scenic Rim Regional Council were at the Ramada Resort Kooralbyn Valley to work out the logistics of the Finale event. Leader of the People’s Orchestra Andrew Vievers is fourth on the right, and Brad Warneminde (Cultural Duty Officer – Event & Stage Management) is on the extreme right. He’s the person organising all the local artists in all the Scenic Rim events.

Anyway, I’ll report later when Jeanne and I actually get together. Can’t wait until April, when the melodica really gets her day on stage!
