[Posting clips of my students performing lets them know I’m proud of them. Learning music – like learning most things – is a series of little steps, every step significant, and hopefully taken with a sense of pleasure and adventure.]
Moses is learning to read notes, and playing pieces in the Middle C Position.
Last week, we flicked ahead through his lesson book to see what was coming up. One piece was “Nobody Knows The Trouble I’ve Seen”. Here it is.
I described it as a sad, beautiful song, and sang the lyrics to him. Moses listened quietly without making comment.
This week he turned up and said: “I learnt ‘Nobody Knows!”
What? We’re nowhere near that yet!
I went to YouTube Kids and listened to it. Then I worked it out so I could play it here.
Being a bit of a slogger myself, I love effort, possibly above all else. After hearing that I found simple sheet music in the key he’s playing, with chords above.
We can use the chord root alone to make a simple bass line. So he’s gone home with that, and we can work on the middle bit next time.
Moses, you made my day. Thank you 😀
