Last week I popped over to Logan North Library, in Springwood, to see the Brisbane Regional Youth Orchestra (BRYO) play sci-fi and fantasy music, as part of a local sci-fi fantasy event.
I dodged these keen stormtroopers (phew!) and went upstairs to check out the Vivace Ensemble (the smaller version of BRYO).
Rachelle Lee, who leads the Vivace Ensemble, said they basically dug out all their repertoire of anything to do with sci-fi and fantasy, and came up with:
- Harry Potter
- Star Wars
- Doctor Who
- Lord Of The Rings
This harpist was playing LOTR music too.
Here’s Rachelle with BRYO Director Shaun Dorney (yes, lots about him in the Under This Sky posts), and a very tall Gandalf. Ah love that Spock tee!
I’ve cobbled together a short video, just a taste of the lovely music. Here are snippets of E.T., and….Star Wars! You can hear flautist Monash Lal and percussionist Rachel Dory, both also in the UTS project.
Ah, to be a kid again. Although sometimes I think all this is really for the grown ups. Personally, I’m working my way through the Robin Hobb books. Way to go, love fantasy.
