Shock Resistant, original song by Arthur VIDEO

[Posting clips of my students performing lets them know I’m proud of them. Learning music – like learning most things – is a series of little steps, every step significant, and hopefully taken with a sense of pleasure and adventure.]

Arthur wrote lyrics for a song and asked me to write music to go with them. Here he is performing his original song.

I asked him: “How old were you when you wrote this?”

He said: “I wrote it when I was ten, but I had the idea when I was nine.”

Arthur is a rock star in the making.

As a teaching project this was great. Arthur is on a Bastien learner book, and has just started the G position.

But in Shock Resistant, he has to play low G, and Bb in G minor chords in the right hand. Plus many new, higher notes. Not bad!

The original lyric, by Arthur

Shock Resistant by Arthur

Shock Resistant

Is your alarm not working?

Is your phone not working?

Do you feel like nothing…..anymore

Well you better look out, ‘cos I am

Shock-resist, shock-resist, shock resisTANT!

Shock-resist, shock-resist, shock resisTANT!

Electrical wires

as a cape

Electricity as hair

A light bulb

as a nose

Better look out, ‘cos I’m

Shock-resist, shock-resist, shock resisTANT!

Shock-resist, shock-resist, shock resisTANT!

Here’s the Shock Resistant music
